CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
CHILDREN’S
BALLET - A performing Art combining poses and steps with flowing
movement. Using technique as a
liberating force each student is encouraged to express their individual
strengths and personality through dance.

Level
A-1 -A dance awakening class for
potty-trained 2 ½ – 3
½ year olds,
introducing young children to the joys of
movement and music through dance, tumbling, percussion and imaginative
play. Recommended one class per
week.
o
Level A - A pre-ballet classes for 3 ½ - 5 year olds
that will introduce children to more formalized movement and initial ballet
postures through the use of organized play. Recommended one class per week.
o
Level B -Ballet Class for 5 and 6 year olds that presents the
primary curriculum; expanding on the initial postures and movement from Level
A, now is the time to learn to do everything with a little more care, but with
just as much enjoyment.
Recommended one class per week.

Level 1 -The young dancer ages 7-9 years old will begin to
work through the class like a professional dancer. The exercises are divided into two parts – those taken
at the barre, and those in the
centre. Recommended two classes
per week.

Level 2- This level is for children who have accomplished the elements
of Level 1 which generally takes two years. Level 2 introduces more exercises at the barre and a larger vocabulary of movement in the centre as
well as concepts of Pointe work. Recommended two classes per week.
CHILDREN’S CAPOEIRA - An Art that synthesizes elements of dance,
gymnastics, martial arts and music.
Your children will learn to work with and combine all these elements to
create the capoeira game. Appropriate for 5-11 yr olds. Recommended one class per week.
CHILDREN’S JAZZ/HIP-HOP – A blend of jazz, hip/hop, African and latin
moves appropriate for 7-10 year olds.
CHILDREN’S TAP – Basic tap moves and percussive dance
appropriate for 5-8 year olds.
TWEENS JAZZ/HIP-HOP - A blend
of jazz, hip/hop, African and
latin moves appropriate for 11-13 year olds.
MUSIC
AWAKENING - The preschool music
program is a fun, group class for children ages 3-4, designed to teach the
basics of music. All classes are limited to 6 students per class and are 30
minutes once per week.
INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC -The
Introduction to Music Program is a group class for children ages 4-6. This
class is designed as an enrichment class to strengthen their desire to learn
music. The classes are 30 minutes, once a week and involve: vocal warm-up,
elementary note reading, introduction to the basics of the keyboard, music
history and rhythm development. This class is a good follow-up to our music
awakening class or for the 6 year old who does not yet feel ready for private
lessons. It also is a great enrichment for the young student who is in private
instrument lessons.
ADULT
CLASSES
BALLET BASICS
– A foundation class for the
absolute beginner, you will learn the basic positions of arms and legs, correct
body posture and alignment, a beginning vocabulary of steps and simple
combinations of movements using those steps. Each class begins with breathing alignment exercises in the
center floor followed by barre work and stretching. Class continues in the center floor, practicing the elements
learned at the barre. Fuller more
free movements are practiced moving across the floor culminating in small jumps
and grand allegro – big jumps also moving across the floor.
BALLET LEVEL 1- Class follows the same structure as Basics; a breathing and alignment
warm-up, barre, center floor and grand allegro moving across the floor. Using the elements learned in basics as
the building blocks, barre exercises expand and increase in repetitions and
speed and include more stretching.
The center floor work employs longer and move involved combinations.
BALLET LEVEL 2- In this class with a strong foundation acquired in Basics and Level 1,
students use their technique to begin pointe preparation or beginning pointe as
well as simple batterie (small beats).
Students also practice longer, more involved combinations which build
more strength, flexibility and stamina required for this level of Ballet.
BALLET LEVEL 3 –This class features a more complex level of choreography which
includes multiple pirouettes, petit allegro with batterie and longer, more
involved grande allegro. There is
also partnering and increased pointe work.
CAPOEIRA - A combination of martial arts and dance born in Brazil by
African slaves. Forbidden to pursue any form of defense Capoeira was created as
dance and disguised martial arts practiced to vibrant Afro-Brazilian music.
JAZZ BASICS – An introductory level class to the style of dance seen
in music videos, broadway, Vegas and all forms of contemporary entertainment.
JAZZ LEVEL 1&2 – A more advanced class featuring complex, powerful movement
danced to contemporary music.
MODERN BASICS
– Designed for the absolute beginner, students will learn the basics of
body dynamics and movement as it relates to modern dance technique. Class begins with a set warm-up that
will strengthen core muscles, develop flexibility, strength and musicality and
continues with the repetition of
essential elements culminating in the fluid choreography for which
modern dance is known.
MODERN DANCE
– This open level class is based in Horton Technique, a modern dance
pioneer, and features a set, strong warm-up and exhilarating, flowing
choreography.
PILATES –
A body conditioning class designed to teach body awareness, good posture and
easy, graceful movement, improve flexibility, agility and economy of
motion. This class can dramatically
transform the way the body looks, feels and performs and will build strength
without excess bulk, creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a
flat abdomen.
